Beneath the Bookcase

Beneath the Bookcase

purple spine,
Stronger than my
backbone,
tattooed with black ink
beliefs.
Messages, mantras deep within
never changing
Your inflexible stance
lives on the pedestal.
My shifting twisting vertebrae
sleep on the floor.

  1. I love books, so I therefore love this poem. Personification can be a very useful technique. I think this is an excellent example of it done right. Rich language connected to human qualities, then also amplified by further comparison to yourself. The mention of "spine" also
made me think about your yoga teacher-training.
